The 2007 Ulsan PWA World Cup - Day Six

12.05.2007
Light winds torment all but the leaders today. Tomorrow’s forecast gives the last glimmer of hope for anyone intent on toppling event leader Kevin Pritchard (Starboard / MauiSails) from his perch. If the wind comes out to play, second-placed Micah Buzianis (JP / NeilPryde) and Antoine Albeau (Starboard / NeilPryde), who sits in third, will go all-out to spoil Pritchard’s party.

In the women’s event, Karin Jaggi’s (F2 / North) lead is virtually unassailable, leaving the clash for the runner’s-up spot between second-placed Sarah Hebert (Starboard / Naish) and Ayako Suzuki (Starboard / Gaastra) in third.

Similar teasing conditions wrote off yesterday, however the racers were taken by the event organizers on a cultural tour of the Ulsan ‘Eco-polis’ region to see some stunning local sites of interest.

Included on the tour of the city, national park and surrounds was the beautiful temple of Tong-do, which wowed all the competitors who, despite the lack of wind, had the chance to soak-up some more atmospheres from this, the PWA’s newest location on tour.

Even without wind, the Korean event sponsors and organizers here have created an amazing ambience. But, the real focus is undeniably on the scramble for the event title and the 2007 tour lead.

The final day forecast is better than for recent days, representing the last opportunity for Pritchard’s challengers, and for Suzuki to displace Hebert in the struggle for second in the women’s competition.

Pritchard has spectacularly launched his season’s campaign, denting his opponent’s hopes in devastating style with this key psychological lead.

Jaggi meanwhile looks more business-like than ever, intent on adding to her already bulging trophy cabinet in ruthless fashion.

One thing’s for certain - the finish is set to be intriguing, and the tension un-bearable.
