King of the Bay second day

The single elimination started later as predicted because of the missing wind. Also it was not able to complete it what means that we will do that tomorrow.

Jakub Kosmowski (Tabou/Gaastra) and Kevin Mevissen (JP/NP) decided not just to sit and wait for the wind but walked the beach and found a guy with a Wakeboard boat. They decided that it might be a great warm up and went for it. We thought they will take it easy and take care a bit about themselves but actually we couldn’t be more wrong.
They tried moves, kicked some cutbacks and almost destroyed themselves with unbelievable slams. First it took us some time to describe the motorboat guys who these two characters are but as soon as they hit the water the action described them way better…
We spent some time on the boat but we had the feeling that the wakeboard guys wanted to continue much more than we did.
But as there was a fun race on the schedule we had to go back anyway and so we found ourselves on a crowded beach in front of the ASPC (Alacati Paradise Surf Centre) where everyone was waiting for the “low wind” freestyle session. Again the EFPT Riders showed their close connection to the public by staying not more than 40 meters away from the beach and showing of like hell.
Almost like in the old Freestyle days they were surfing on the edge, going into the boom, making all possible sail tricks, going together on one board, Tine Slabe (F2/Naish) had a youngster on his shoulders, the boys showed never ending geckos well, all “no wind” stuff possible. As the sponsors of the event were super pleased the top 3 of them got brand new mobile phones and were absolutely stoked about it.
As first the crowds chose Bjorn Saragoza, the 15 year old had the Turkish spectators on his side as he was the one always close to the beach showing his incredible geckos all in front of it.
On the second Place came Tine Slabe who was sailing with Lasse (a Local Hero Kid) on his shoulders and convinced a Turkish rider to make a headstand in front of his mast.
Third became Nicolas Akgaczyan, you might say he danced in this position already on the stage.
After this, as everyone was ready for relaxing the wind picked up and the race director sent the next heat on the water. the conditions were grand actually as announced for the whole day and the tribune filled immediately. Spectators were screamin and pushin the locals on as well as the young blood from Bon Aire. His opponent in the next round was one of the big names in EFPT: Matteo Guazzoni (RRD/Simmer Sails)!!! “Guazza” showed super clean moves didn’t crash and moved to the next round. So we’ll have to wait a bit until we’ll see more of young Bjorn.
Jakub Kosmowski (Tabou/Gaastra) and Kevin Mevissen (JP/NP) after their sick Wakeboard warm up kicked the last remaining Locals out of the single elimination and yes, we think they went wakeboarding straight after their heats…
Niklas Strahlen, the fresh Swedish Freestyle Champion, was eliminated by Normen Günzlein (JP/NP) which came relaxed back to the beach where his girl, who is travelling with us, was already waiting.
After this few decisions the race was stopped again because of the dropping wind and so Remko De Weerd (Fanatic/Gaastra) and Andrea Rosati (RRD/NP) had to come back to beach with unfinished business. This will be the next heat on Saturday as the race director put the red flag up which means no more heats …
So find the ladder attached and wait for more news from beautiful Alacati…
