Premantura ? Croatia
For the big showdown, the final event of the efpt 2004, in Premantura more than 60 riders from 11 nations made their pre-registration, which leaded to the biggest starterfield of this years tour.
From the beginning the situation concerning the title of the IFCA Eureopean Freestyle Champion was very dramatic as the 3 leading guys Matteo Guazzoni (RRD), Norman Günzlein (JP/NP) and Andrea Rosati (RRD/NP) separated by less than 100 points.

The event started on Friday with very good south wind up to 6 bft, so on this day the complete single elimination could be done, bringing the first surprise of this event. Tourleader Matteo Guazzoni struggled in the 3rd round of the main ladder against Daniel Bikich (F2/Arrows). As Norman Günzlein (JP/NP) and Andrea Rosati (RRD / NP) finished in 3rd respectively 4th position, at this stage of the event Norman took the lead in the overall ranking as well.
Also Kevin Mevissen (JP/NP) and Chris Sammer (F2/Arrows) came back on the efpt at this event and matched in the final showing on more time their extra skills in freestyle windsurfing. At the end Kevin showed all the high technical moves in a better fluent style so that he finished in 1st position ahead of Chris in this single elimination.
As their was no wind on the second day the tension was unbeatable at Sunday as the wind came back and the double elimination got started at 11.00 am. Matteo, who came in as the first of the top guys, took the victory against Mattia Pedrani (Mistral / North Sails) which brought him again against Dani Bikich (F2/Arrows) in the next round. But this time Matteo stayed cool and demonstrad why he is fighting for the European Freestyle Champion. He beated Dani very clear in a 3:0 judge decission. Also in his next heat against Michi Rossmeier (F2/Arrows) from Austria he kept calm and moved on into the semi-final against Andrea Rosati (RRD/NP).
For the overall ranking this meant that Norman (JP/NP) had to win his semifinal against the local hero Tine Slabe (F2/Arrows), to stay in the battle for the european championship.
Both guys Matteo (RRD) and Norman (JP/NP) won their semifinals which brought them together in the next heat. As Norman showed the better performance in this duel he moved on in the double and also kept his chance of winning the overall title. As Matteo (RRD) moved from the 9th place in the single to the 4th place in the double elimination, Norman needed to win the event to keep his chance for the tour title.
But it was the austrian Chris Sammer (F2/Arrows) who should decide everything. In the heat against Norman (NP/JP) he showed shaka and switch stance moves in perfection, so the routinier moved on to the final, making Matteo Guazzoni (RRD) to the European Freestyle Champion where the biggest european talent Kevin Mevissen (JP/NP) was waiting.
At the final Chrisi (F2/Arrows) and Kevin (JP/NP) showed to the crowed what freestyle windsurfing is all about. It was a switch-stance chaccoo landed fully planning in front of the judges from Kevin (JP/NP) that brought him the event title.
