12.11.2006
Day 4 of the PWA Aloha Classic Wave Championships presented by JP Australia Jesse Brown takes the win over Josh Stone! Maui, Hawaii (USA) – On the final day of Amateur competition the Open Men final between Josh Stone and Jesse Brown was completed. With gusty wind conditions and large swell period, it took some experience and skill to find the best waves of the heats. With winds around 15 kts again, and a medium swell running, the sailors had their work cut out for them. Jesse Brown was able dig deep into his tool kit of manuevers and pass Josh Stone for the win. The heat was a challenge for sure with the trying conditions.

In the Junior Womens final, it was Ahsley Baxter, Paulina Pease, and Kristen Orth, who went out to see who was the best Junior Women sailor on Maui. The ladies had a blast finding some nice waves to ride and show the crowds at the beach that their are some real up and coming talent on Maui developing for girls. Paulina Pease's experience at Hookipa really showed and was able to push past Ashley Baxter for the win, followed by Kristen Orth.

In the hotly contested Junior Mens final, it came down to local hotshot, Kai Lenny, and Brazilian up and coming star, Marcillo Brausinho, fighting it out for first and second place, with Ian Lemo and Graham Ezzy going for third and fourth. Marcillo had some amazing flackas on the wave for his transitions which were smooth as butter, but, Kai Lenny who made some big aerial moves off the peaking waves allowed him to take the top spot over Brausinho. And it was Ian Lemos who was able to had wave selection on his side for taking the win over Graham Ezzy.

The Menehune Division (kids) was one of the favorities among the crowds with kids wave sailing at Hookipa ranging from 10 years old up to 14 years old. This group of hie hard sailors already at such a young age really put on a beautiful showing at Hookipa. Their smaller stature really helped in the lighter winds and the waves looks logo to mast high when these grommets dropped into the waves. It came down to Connor Baxter, Kalani Hunt, Jake Golm and Baker Grant into the final. The much improved Baker Grant really pushed connor with great wave selection, but Connor was able to hold him off with some bigger aerials and solid wave riding. Fighting for third and fourth place, Kalani Hunt used his experience at Hookipa to take the win over Jake Golm.

Congratulations to all the amateur sailors. Job well done. Next up, we will be starting the Pro Divisions, which will be starting on Friday, November 10, and are slated to continue to November 17. Stay tuned.
