International speed windsurfing Elite at the STIMOROL Engadinwind 2006

Nobody would have thought that there might be Euro Cup races on the Lake Silvaplana today. Untill the early eve there was absolutely no wind in the Engadin. But the windsurfers from all over the world were ready to start as the wind suddenly kicked in later. The first and second races of the Euro Cup Formula Racing were accomplished.

At the start also international speed windsurf stars such as Costa Hoevel (ARG), Arnon Dragan (ISR), Patrick Diethelm (ITA) and Ross Williams (GBR). It was very quiet on the event area during the day. A lot of people still felt the yesterday’s Surf Party at the Beach Club in Sils, which was a very nice ending of the freestyle competition. And the gaze to the sky was not very promising either. That was the reason why everybody was quite surprised, when the wind suddenly kicked in around five o’clock. The riders which traveled to Silvaplana from all over the world got their material ready and went out on the water to be ready for the start of the first race of the Euro Cup Formula Racing.

Kuba Guzdek (POL) won the first race in front of Ross Williams (GBR) and Gonzalo Coesta Hoevel (ARG). The second race which was right after the first showed a similar ending: Ross Williams (GBR) won in front of Arnon Dagan (ISR) and Kuba Guzdek (POL). Other Formula Racing races are going to be accomplished due to the wind conditions until Saturday 20th of August. At the this year’s Euro Cup at the STIMOROL Engadinwind there are more then 70 competitors from all over the world.

Rider of interest will also be be Finian Maynard from the British Virgin Islands, who is only starting in the Euro Cup Slalom. He is the new Slalom world champion and fastest man of the world. On August 19th the legendary Engadin Surf Marathon will be a part of the program for the 29th time in a row. It shall be 100% fun for all the surfers participating at the longest and highest set surf regatta worldwide. Meanwhile the attractive course can be watched by the crowd from the shore of the Lake Silvaplana. The marathon is a classic discipline among the windsurfers and will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year.
