Silver strand is the local bump and jump/wave(ish) spot in Galway. It works best with a south west to westely wind, and provides really good jumping conditions. There can be regulary up to 20 people on the water here and sailing is usually very sociable, with everyone pushing each other on and having a good time. The beach is sandy but rocks stick out on either side of the beach, the ones on the left side being particularly bad. On a normal south west day launch from the right hand side of the beach and sail toward the rocky island about 500m south east of the beach. Stay well upwind on the way out to avoid the rocks that are underwater from about half tide. Best time to sail here is between low water and mid tide, but it can be sailed almost right up to high tide. High spring tides cause a small problem as the water comes up to the rocks by the car park.
head towards Rusheen bay (http://www.soulrider.com/spot/spotdetail.php?id=265) and instead of turning left into Rusheen keep going for about 2km and turn left at the next junction, signposted "Silver strand beach angling".
