Gowlane

Gowlane is one of the more popular places in the famous Brandon Bay area of Ireland. The prevailing SW winds funnel through a valley behind the beach increasing the side off shore wind to a point where planning winds can be had here while the rest of the bay is relativley calm. The spot is a hardcore wave spot when there is a good swell running. It can be quite difficult to get out due how offshore the wind is, but once out the port tack down the line wave riding is the stuff dreams are made of and as good as any spot in the world. If the wind is not quite right then by traveling to the next spot up or down the beach (Kilcummin or Stradbally) then more sideshore conditions and bigger or smaller waves depending on the swell direction. Autumn and Spring are the best months for wavesailing but fun thermal days can also be experienced during the summer with smaller waves. If your planning on sailing here pack your smallest sails 3.3 is often too much!!! There is no proper car park so please respect the locals and park carefully so as not to block access to the beach.
